"Douglas Makes Me Droopy"

Frederick Douglas

The teenager has a third grade reading level. For years every night before she goes to bed she can be found reading the same book which is titled, Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglas, An American Slave, Written By Himself. On the few occasions when she brings a purse with her she generally tucks this book in to her purse as well.

Tonight I go to tuck her in and put in her glaucoma drops and she is already asleep with the book on her chest. I wake her up.

"I don't know what it is about Douglas but he makes me droopy," she yawns. I had to laugh.

There is a special place in heaven for people like The Teenager. I'm sure her angel was laughing, too.

How cute! That's interesting that she reads the same book every night, and takes it in her purse. Does she read other books also?

ANKOP: Yes, she is an avid reader. Mostly children's books. This one has been a fave for years.

Sweet. Her droopy is good.

I'm smiling about your Quaker Parrots. I love them all--every species in the parrot-parakeet kingdom--and miss the babble of their chatter from my Miami years.

How sweet! Now I must google Frederick and read about him!

I've read that book, but only because I was required to for a college class. I would say your teenager is smarter than most people to love it so.

I saw the title of this post and new exactly who said it :)

Tell her her big sis misses her and the eye drop ritual.

I love your anecdotes about your children. What strikes you as beautiful, as funny, as moving is so telling of what an incredible mother you are.
